Explosion at Exxon Mobil refinery in Torrance, Calif.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Police and firefighters from Torrance, Calif., were responding Wednesday to a large explosion at an Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM, -2.63% refinery, the TV station KLTA reported. The local station said residents had reported hearing the explosion and feeling the ground shake. It cited police as saying air-quality readings were within the normal range. Shares of Exxon Mobil were down 2.5% at their lowest level for the day of $ 90.73.
